Prince Puggly of Spud and the Kingdom of Spiff is a middle-grade novel written in rhyming anapaestic tetrameter, the same style as the author's debut, Zorgamazoo. The story concerns a commoner named Puggly who is asked unexpectedly to replace the king of the unfashionable Kingdom of Spud. Struggling with his new responsibilities, Puggly is invited to the Kingdom of Spiff's exclusive centenary ball, where he meets the bookish Princess Fran. Together, the two set out to teach the Spiffians a lesson in style. The narrative was partly inspired by stories by the 13th century satirical philosopher, Mulla Nasruddin (1208–1285).
