<p>This chapter examines textual constructions of Edward the Confessor's alleged virginity in the eleventh and twelfth centuries. The identification of changing nuances in Edward's successive virginities adds to our understanding of the concerns which drove the development of his cult, providing a register of attitudes to Edward and to saintly virginities.</p>
