Is the president of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev’s authority under threat as a result of the popular uprisings that occurred between 2003 and 2005 in Georgia, Ukraine and Kyrgyzstan? Will the coloured revolutions inspire Kazakh opposition elites to mobilise popular discontent to overthrow Nazarbayev? Or conversely will the disproportionate actions of the authorities in Kazakhstan only breed more discontent?
