This chapter outlines methods of creative labor in the musical to expand conceptions of thecreator. By reframing existing narratives of well-known creative teams while taking into accountthe work of under-explored creators and practitioners, we address gaps in historiography. In ourcorrective approach we consider contemporary and historical case studies alongside one anotherin order to expand our definition of musical theatre creators and collaborators and betterunderstand the processes, practicalities and evolution of musical theatre.
