According to numerous commentators, critics, scientists, and philosophers, one of the central challenges facing humanity in the twenty-first century is the creation of Artificial General Intelligence (A.G.I.). Whether perceived as a threat, or the development of the ultimate labour-saving technology, the creation of machines that think opens a range of new challenges and possibilities. This seminar will speculate about the meaning of these new ‘life-forms’ through a discussion about the intersections between contemporary study, technology, and text.
