Exhibited at the thirteenth edition of FILE 2012 - Electronic Language International Festival took place from July 17th to August 19th 2012, at the Art Gallery of SESI-SP, FI.ESP Cultural Center, Sao Paulo, Brazil. FILE - Electronic Language International Festival is a New media art festival that usually takes place in three different cities of Brazil: São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Porto Alegre and it has also participated in others events around the world. It is the biggest art & technology festival in Brazil, and it serves as a lead indicator of the plurality of the work created in the interactive art field not only nationally but also internationally. The mobile phone, the internet and social media platforms played a significant role in the revolutions for social and political change in the Arab world known as the 'Arab Spring'. Camera phones were used to capture footage of events that would prove to be a catalyst for change, and online platforms used to circumvent the state controlled media outlets. The collective use of technology empowered the people to progress an agenda for democratic reform, in some instances accomplishing complete regime change that many had only dreamt of years. In the 21st century we all have the potential to document reality and life as we wander the city with our smart devices and camera phones. We can capture the nuances of everyday life, regardless of how banal or seemingly unimportant they may seem at the time, for posterity and digital eternity. Ubiquitous and pervasive mobile camera phones and smart devices offer the opportunity for the democratization of documentary production. These devices are in the hands of the many, with the potential for a collaborative and cumulative vision of truth about humanity and life in the 21st century to emerge.
