Killeen and colleagues hail the eradication of Anopheles gambiae from Brazil in the 1930s 2 as a model for the re-launch of vector control in Africa. However, as they acknowledge, it has long been argued this may be a misleading example because A gambiae is not well adapted to the climate of Brazil and was therefore relatively easy to eradicate. 3 I tested this hypothesis using statistical habitat suitability models.
