Archbishop Harcourt's recruitment of literate clergymen. Part 2: clerical seminaries for literates in the diocese of York, 1800-1849

<p>This paper examines the ways in which non-graduate clergymen prepared for ordination in the diocese of York, in particular the use of a network of clerical tutors officially approves by the archbishop. It considers the links between these men and larger clerical associations, such as the Elland Clerical Education Society.</p>
