There is a degree of irony in the fact thatin activities as thoroughly embodied assport and exercise, there is relatively littlephenomenological and particularlyethnomethodological analysis ofmembers’ subjective experiences ofaccomplishing these practical activities. This paper aims to address this lacuna in amodest way, by analysing one particularsporting activity, distance running, andmore specifically, ‘running-together’ as ajoint accomplishment. Based upon datagenerated from a collectiveautoethnographic research project ondistance running, the paper seeks tocombine the autoethnographic approachwith the insights of phenomenology andspecifically, ethnomethodology, in orderto examine the production of runningtogether, and thereby to ‘mark’ thisparticular mundane activity.
