Student nurses’ experiences of Project 2000

Aim The aim of the study was toinvestigate student nurses’ experiences ofProject 2000.Method A sample of 76 students completeda questionnaire twice, once at the beginningof the course and again after one year. Asecond questionnaire comprising rating scalesof how stressed they felt, was completed by asample of 30 students weekly for the firstyear of the course.Results Seven areas of concern wereidentified: the theory component of thecourse, assessments, clinical practice,financial pressures, time management,personal development and personaldifficulties.Conclusion Sufficient data were generatedto suggest that the experiences of Project 2000students in other institutions are likely to besimilar to those reported in the study.Recommendations for teachers, clinical staffand students are made.
