“Letters From Amy” is a series of fictional letters written by Amy Johnson during her young adult years as she discovers her passion for flying and imagines how this might inspire a future career, defying the conventions and expectations of a woman of her time. The letters will be hosted here and inspired wholly by real life events, giving an engaging emotional response to historical fact and bringing the woman behind the pilot’s goggles to life for a young audience who are experiencing the same challenges of growing up that Amy did all those years ago. The project will trace a key period of development and change in Amy’s life, marking her transition from a young Yorkshire woman to an inspirational heroine.Created for the Amy Johnson Festival 2016.Supported by Arts Council England, Hull City Council and Hull Libraries.
