Gary Rawnsley

Gary Rawnsley is Professor Public Diplomacy and Head of the School of Social and Political Sciences. His research sits at the intersection of international relations and communications, having spent the last forty years studying and writing about propaganda, public diplomacy, cultural diplomacy, and soft power. While he is interested in both theoretical and comparative approaches to these subjects, much of his work has focused on East Asia. Rawnsley has written extensively on China, Taiwan, South Korea, and Vietnam. He has lived and worked in China for seven years, and has been a visiting professor in Australia and Taiwan. A Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, Rawnsley is on the editorial or advisory boards of a number of journals, including The Hague Journal of Diplomacy, The Journal of Public Diplomacy, and the Journal of Chinese Film Studies. He is also the Book Reviews editor for the International Journal of Taiwan Studies and the Journal of International Communication.
